Rutstroemia firma

FRUIT BODY: 5 - 10mm. This short stalked species is usually found in large groups with each fruiting body saucer to disk shaped and having a small upturned rim around the outer edge. The upper surface is olive to red-brown with the outer surface slightly darker or concolorous. The entire fruit body turns black when old. GILLS/PORES: N/A. FLESH: Rubbery and tough when dry. SPORES: Hyaline, allantoid, smooth and with 1 to 3 septa. Occasionally secondary spores can be seen on the end of each individual spore. HABITAT: In groups on branches of Oak, Alder and Hazel. SEASON: Widespread and fruiting from spring to late winter. EDIBILITY: Inedible.
